Do you remember what it was like to be a child? This painting is about joyful freedom, before we learned pain, fear, or sadness. This is who we were before we forgot that there is no separation between ourselves & God.
This is a self-portrait, from a photo at age 6. It shows how I related to God as a child growing up in the Applegate Valley, Oregon. The world, vibrant around me, contained myriad beings of love, joy, & protection. The protective figure is the Corn Mother of Native American traditions & Mary of the Christian traditions. Perhaps she is a guardian angel. The red-tailed hawk high above is the messenger of the Creator, watching lovingly over the whole picture...
